As the Iran war continues to choke flows through the Strait of Hormuz and scramble global crude markets, Moscow’s flagship Urals blend is essentially printing money.
Another big giant present with a bow on top from Trump to Putin.
I guess this is countered by Ukraine repeatedly hitting their refineries
Here’s an infographic dated May 8th. The oil barrel in the bottom left shows the theoretical maximum impact of strikes if they somehow took all refineries they hit offline completely.
Ukraine is pretty good at targeting the right units when they hit a refinery, but it’s not perfect. Either way looking at economic output sources Russia made half as much money from oil last year as 2022, and the refinery strikes are picking up speed. Tuapse was a giant hit to them. Ukraine hit it 5 times in a row… Most of Russia’s biggest oil refineries feeding Europe have been hit repeatedly by long range drones.
Tuapse was I believe the first time Ukraine went for the total destruction of the facilities. All the other hits have been at strategic targets that disabled key processes.
It’s sign of a massive shift in air superiority in favor of Ukraine.
It’s a bit misleading because production is almost never fully stopped. Sometimes a tank is blown up, meaning less buffer, sometimes some pipes get blown up, which brings it down for a day, but they almost never go fully offline for a long time. Some refineries have been hit multiple times because they re-start functioning a day after.

Edit: clarity and structure.

Yeah you’re right but Ukraine also specifically targets hard to repair or replace components that need sanctioned western parts to repair.
This infographic is glorious.
The best part is it needs to be updated at least weekly
