In the shattered neighbourhoods of Khan Younis and Deir el-Balah in the Gaza Strip, the roar of Israeli drones and the concussive thud of controlled demolitions are daily reminders that the war has never really ended.

Despite a “ceasefire” in place since October, families continue to pull bodies from the rubble. According to local medical sources, 828 Palestinians have been killed since the “truce” began. Now, families in Gaza are bracing for a renewed offensive as Israeli officials threaten to tear up the fragile agreement to force a surrender.

It has been awhile but before Israel and Palestine, wasn’t all that land part of the Ottoman Empire until the early 1900s? Not exactly the best poster child for peace, but yeah maybe for stability… 600 years is a solid run.

It’s kind of a weird western perspective, the tendency to assume that all the Islamic countries just get along though. Israel is just the most hated, without them Iran is next, going to have even more attention. A lot of other countries that could become destabilizing forces too, ISIS is depleted but really wants some new territory and they’re hated by near everyone. You also can’t forget about the kurds and the general sunni/shiite divide even beyond Iran. Pure opinion, but if Israel and Iran weren’t around, I feel like there’d be a lot of countries picking fights with Iraq again.

It kind of feels like the region was setup to be unstable and yeah it probably was.
