She would NOT stand still by the mounting block at first and once I got her still and I got into the saddle, she wanted to keep taking me to the gate out of the arena. I was not about that and I just made her stand in the middle of the arena and any time she moved forward towards the gate, I made her back up to the original spot. She was very frustrated with me, but got over herself eventually and stopped trying to go to the gate. That took like 15 minutes and getting in the saddle took 10 before that. Once she was standing and being good for a bit, I ended the session so we’d finish on a good note. It wasn’t much of a ride, but these things take time.

I do need to get a new girth though, because the one I’ve been using is rubbing a little bit and will def be uncomfy if I keep using it on her. So I’m gonna get that ordered before I get on her again.

I will freely admit that I couldn’t care less about horses in general. I don’t open up most of your posts, but I read them as I scroll past. I will also say that it’s touching how much you care for this horse, and I’ve come to even be somewhat curious/interested in how it’s going. Keep up the good work (even if it’s hard and frustrating sometimes) 😁

I’ve been rehabbing her for 2 years but have only ridden her twice. She just got cleared for riding at the end of last month, so it’s gonna take a bit for her to get used to me being the boss while in the saddle. She listens perfectly on the ground, but didn’t always. I expected this so none of it was too surprising lol.

oooooh, I see. sorry, I’m not up to date with your journey, but that sounds great that you’re taking care of this lovely lady!

it’s so nice that people are willing to do the hard work and put the care and love into animals who need it it!

        ❤️

The Sandy Saga has been like all I’ve posted for two years, so if you wanna start from the beginning, the first post is in my profile somewhere lol.

Sandy is def my bestie and I’m glad you enjoyed the post! She’s gone leaps and bounds further than I expected her to when I started with her. All the literal blood, sweat, tears, time, and $$$$$ I’ve put into her has really paid off.

            awww ❤️

so, I wanna add a user tag, so is it “horsy dude” or “horsy lady”? “horsy person” takes up too many spaces

edit: nevermind. it’s just “horsy 🐎” lol

One of piefed’s cool features. I know you’ve been on Lemmy for a while. I moved to Lemmy during the diggexodus about 4 years ago, and bounced around instances for a while. Ended up on piefed because it has some neat upgrades and skips most of the political stuff. But it completely interoperates with Lemmy, so it works the same pretty much.

Anyway, I think it’s pretty great that you do the work you do with horses, and it’s super sweet. Where do you live? Like in the US or Canada or wherever?

Aw, that sounds wonderful. I guess, because I’ve been moving around a lot, I must have missed it.

I’m super glad I caught it this time around ❤️
