So, on Reddit (not a good place, I know), the most upvoted comment to a post saying “You get a call from a woman and it makes you angry. Who is she?” was “Ellen ‘Degenerate’”. (Their words, not mine). Since it was hugely upvoted, why is she so bad? All I know is that she is a talk show host and a lesbian.

I could have been more clear. I am already familiar with the “treated staff poorly” allegations. It’s this wild one about she moved to Europe to escape her connections to Diddy that doesn’t ring true.
Can you not conduct a search? It was a pretty big deal, numerous staff or former staff comments, it basically led to her calling it early.

Meh, not really. In my view it’s more like: you read something, you doubt it, you investigate.
You spread it: you back it up with facts.
I figured the search would reveal a ton of trashy celebrity rag stories, and it would take some time to see whether more reliable news stories would support any such contentions. Since the original commenter believed the allegations, perhaps that person already had some strong sources in mind.
The ridiculous part of this is that Ellen would have fled to Europe to avoid prosecution or connection to sex trafficking by P. Diddy. I am already aware of the “treated staff poorly” allegations, and they are all over this thread.
Going and researching other people’s ridiculous claims is often a waste of time. Do I need to research whether NASA actually went to the moon or if there is an ice wall at Antarctica that holds the oceans in?
I just wasted 5 minutes looking at the allegations about Ellen fleeing to Europe, and it looks like they may have been started by Elon Musk. Should I also investigate whether a diver helping rescue a trapped soccer team in Thailand is a pedophile or Barrack Obama’s birth certificate?
You should always check sources and keep them to later recheck validity before spreading any info around. Cross check it with 5 real sources to be sure.
