Seeed Tracker L1 E-Ink. My only issue is that this case orients the screen 90 degrees off of the joystick mapping. I saw something about screen and joystick modifications coming to the inkhub interface but it doesn’t seem to be in the stable beta branch yet.
How fast does it refresh? Say if you’re messaging people actively can it keep up?
Not sure about this one, but it depends on how you program it. If you program it like an led, it’s horrible. But if you do it properly it’s pretty fast. Animations kill the refresh rate. You can draw a new screen and refresh the whole screen in like half a second. But if you do something like a button animation where you change the color of the button then back then refresh the screen, you have three changes which can take a second and a half.
So, yes, if done well, you can send and receive messages on e-ink fairly well.
Unsure about this product specifically.
They have a UI, inkhub, specifically for e-ink displays.im not using it at the moment but I will in the future.
It doesn’t need to refresh the whole screen at once. However, if I have more than 1 other node visible to me and could be active, it would have trouble keeping up. The inkhub UI handles it much better and once I see the joystick integration hit the beta branch I will use that instead.
For now I do most of my messaging via the phone app so it’s mainly just a very low power display for notifications.
Looks awesome!
Loving the e-ink screen
My favorite node is an e-ink e290 (heltec). Unfortunately
- it’s not supported on MC yet, and my local mesh recently switched to MC
- cases are effectively nonexistent – might have to rent a printer at a makerspace or library and make one
I was looking at the Heltec eink nodes. I ended up going with this one because of the chipset and because I could print a nice looking case. The ones out there for the Heltecs were not that great and I’m not good at 3D modeling stuff like that.
