MANILA - Juan Ponce Enrile, a shrewd political operator who helped usher in the darkest repression of the late Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos's rule, died on Thursday at the age of 101, his daughter said.

Little-known to most outside of Philippines, Enrile is a shrewd politician snake who helped usher in an authoritarian regime in the Philippines, and as his political life became endangered, sparked a revolution that overthrew the Marcos regime.
