I got diagnosed because my oldest son was diagnosed and I was going “he gets that from me” too much.

Fast forward my mum’s entire side of the family is basically undiagnosed ADHD. It’s actually hilarious to witness. They’re all good people and have all led successful lives but man scratch the surface and they are have demons chasing them.

I went to see a psychologist about my driving and he recommended i get screened for ADD. My wife belief with my screening and realised she had it too, probably why we get along so well. Told our parents about it and they said oh that’s just the personality you got from us 🤣

My diagnosis is simply dismissed. Neither of my parents, now in their 60s and 70s, believe it. They think I’m making it up for attention. I’m 43…I’ve kind of just given up at this point. I could show them my chart and it would make zero difference. Don’t get me wrong, I love them and all that, there’s just large parts of who I am that they blatantly refuse to accept. I can’t be queer, I can’t have adhd, etc. It saddens me a bit sometimes.

    My mom: “I don’t think you’re autistic, I think you’re just quirky! :)”

my mom is definitely some kind of neurodivergent lol

It took me over three years to finally schedule an appointment. Mentioned it two times to my GP over two yearly visits, and finally got myself to schedule a test. When speaking with my GP after the positive test he mentioned he had noticed the signs, but I had to finally schedule the test myself. Highly recommended you push yourself to get tested.

Dad is so obvious. We live like shit because he could not sit his ass in place a few hours a day, went off to do wall painting, leaving my mother with her business to fail.

The end result is I’m trying to pay off their debt with what little income I have, since I can’t let them die like that.

And a total loss of life for everyone that will never be paid back.
