Soooo. I was banned for telling a extreme right wing dickhead that he was an asshole. Yeah I shouldn’t have but whatever. (yes I’ve appealed it and failed)

Now all my sub accounts are also banned.

Is the only way to evade the ban to dodge your online fingerprint? (new phone, new email, new ph number. Etc)

I read it’s just IP based but my flat has 3 others that use reddit daily and they are fine so surely it’s device ID and email linked to device. Etc

Sorry to ask here guys but it’s wracking my brain.

Just to give you an idea of what Reddit collects on iOS (minus algorithms):

So I agree with everyone else… a lot.

I was banned because I tried to comfort a trans person because of their critical boss. Someone misinterpreted my statement as anti-trans. Reddit sucks so hard.

Omgoshhh see? Yall try be good but no. I read r/Aoeteroa was going to ban me but I didn’t listen and yeah. Like their mods are right wing tards that will ban you just for the hell of it.

So dumb. Insta and Fb are cespools full of boomers. It seems im either doing short form content every other day (I’m not doing that sorry fk me) or reddit. Or lemmy. Issue with lemmy is the sheer lack of users. I’ve been a lurker since the API charges shit with reddit 3yr ago.

      It’s just feeling empty.

And now I’m seemingly perma banned from reddit im feeling hopeless

I was banned from a 14yr account for “unusual activity” - the unusual activity was logging in on a browser to get my list of subs to transfer here. Zero interest in circumventing the ban, fuck Reddit

    1. I am suspicious of your perfectly innocent story sir or ma’am
    2. Modern web sites are very good at this sort of thing. From hearing from moderators on the small scale, it’s fairly easy to tell when someone who has been banned comes back, simply because they almost always start doing the exact same stuff that got them banned. At that point you don’t really need to do exact fingerprinting, you just look at the relevant dates / behavior / rough device fingerprinting and you have about 99% confidence that this is the same person. But, also, there is a whole technology of figuring out who people are on the web at this point, and it’s pretty comprehensive. Even if you change devices and IPs, your browser’s tracking cookies probably link your Reddit session with your other big-web-site accounts pretty much instantly and there is definitely some kind of API that shares that information back with Reddit. I’m honestly not sure even what I could recommend as a working way to do ban evasion on Reddit.
    3. Bro why Reddit? I still read it periodically because there’s neat stuff there sometimes but there are far better federated social networks than modern Reddit out there, I think.

I got 2 temp suspensions then a ban for

      • Saying Danielle Smith should stand on her head so the blood will rush there and she can have a coherent thought

      24 hours for threatening violence

      • When someone said JD Vance will never be President, I responded with, “He will when Trump has the inevitable coronary from all the cheeseburgers he eats”

      72 hours for threatening violence

When ICE Barbie suggested Canada isn’t doing enough to defend the border, I posted “She can keep her cunt ass on her side of the border”

      • Perma ban for threatening violence

I absolutely believe OP was banned for calling someone an asshole.

Same for me. If it wasn’t talking shit to chuds it was insulting scammers, and there was one time I posted a meme that included the r-word uncensored. Oh well, fuck reddit

Apparently that’s inciting violence and harassment. Sigh

Your device has an ID, and there are various other metrics that they can use

    A demonstration:

    https://coveryourtracks.eff.org/

How does tracking technology follow your trail around the web, even if you’ve taken protective measures? Cover Your Tracks shows you how trackers see your browser. It provides you with an overview of your browser’s most unique and identifying characteristics.

Is the only way to evade the ban to dodge your online fingerprint? (new phone, new email, new ph number. Etc)

Not easily. If Reddit isn’t getting enough data from you, and they can’t figure out who you are, they will often just ban you again

How are they differentiating me from my flatmates if it’s not IP based - bar my device and email? Is it as far as how I talk? The things I’m interested in? Sheesh. Was the only form of social media I indulged in.

Edit: don’t get me wrong but hell if I still get banned after a new phone new email. Etc then eh I guess I’ll just accept it.

It’s possible that their accounts were grandfathered in and already marked as “different people”. During the next little while (the exact period is unknown, but let’s say 6 months), any new accounts from that IP may get banned, but especially those that are deemed “suspicious”.

We don’t know the exact details because Reddit doesn’t release the details. You might find someone here who can tell you about workarounds, but most likely you’ll get the advice to move on and find something new. Most people are here because they no longer want to use Reddit, and I’d say the vast majority is here because they chose to leave and not because of bans

Legit that’s all. Last suspension was for the same thing. Never threatened anyone just eh I don’t agree with your opinion type shit.

The subreddit that got me banned was very right wing so I guess it’s my fault. But damn if that isn’t censorship then what is.

Damn bro even with those comments I wouldn’t ban you?

Well my plan was new device, email, phone number. Only use that device if I’m on reddit.

Don’t follow the same subreddits and just try shut my mouth (isn’t the point of reddit is to share your opinion? Good or bad?)

Damn didn’t realise just how much of a data scraping fiend reddit is. Such a shame. Used to be a good site for freedom of speech!

Ah I’m confused I hate every other sm platform. Yes buying a new device is stupid but if I can evade the ban then this feeling of being silenced can go away,

It’s bloody weird how I feel right now but I hate it lol. Legit feel like I’m in a room full of people and I just can’t talk…

I’ve legit thought fk it ill pay someone to make an acc and post a bit then go from there.

But feels a bit extreme tbh.

My guess would be that you’ve logged into all of the accounts in the same browser, and thus they all shared a common cookie or something similar (like LocalStorage) at some point. It’s a common tactic sites use to mark multiple accounts as being operated by the same person.

This is probably a stupid question, but if your browser accepts cookies, wouldn’t they simply track you through those regardless of account or VPN? Same with app data.

My curiosity is - how are both my flatmates using reddit same IP.

Obv different mac address and device /imei ID. But I’ve tried that. Made an acc at my partners house so diff IP. Using her nannas laptop.

Once I logged in on my phone at a maccas no less with a vpn I was banned.

I’m gonna spoof my device ID with a custom android rom and try again.

Will be buying a new phone in a couple weeks to try my other plan. But fk me man.

To the fella saying fk reddit yeah I get that. Just the only social media platform that I cared about is all.

Feeling kinda empty and silenced is all.

Well if you guys are using the same modem then you all have the same outgoing ip address. Essentially, if they ip ban you, you can unplug and replug the modem and get issued a different (external) ip address

I read your question wrong, sorry.

Reddit finds VPNs very sus so a lot of people have had issued with accessing reddit with VPN.

If you feel drowned out a silenced, post something on Lemmy. Any community you want, go ahead and we’ll join, promote, contribute to it best we can. If you did this same post on reddit, chances are you’ll be downvoted and ignored or no response and ignored
