Pretty sure he could say that he knew Putin put the effort forward to get him elected in 2016 because he would be a better help to Russia and would hurt relations with the west and a lot of people would immediately say it was the right thing to do just because he did it.
Putin used to pay trump when he helped to launder money. Now he uses the fact that Trump helped him launder money as blackmail.
Honestly, I don’t think him making this public would damage Trump at all. The people who would care are already angry about a million other things.
