When my cat does this, he’s trying to get my attention. If I stand up, he will lead me where he wants me to be. Usually, he takes me to his food bowl, or to the special spot we have for brushes and pats. Sometimes though, he wants me to look outside, because his nemesis, the white cat from up the road, is visible, and sometimes he wants me to open the door for his pal, the black cat from across the road.
There can be quite some depth to cat communication, but as with humans, it starts with paying attention.
Your cat is a cutie.
That’s what our older girl does; she’s so polite about it, she won’t even make eye contact sometimes: just sit and patiently wait until we glance in her direction and then cry and try to lead us.
Our younger boy cries the moment he sees us and then just gets more insistent until he’s given attention.
