Not doing it in virtual meetings is even harder.
Yes, but then I also start to think about what a good job I’m doing not interrupting, and then I realize I didn’t listen to anything they said.
YUP. The moment that someone first told me that I interrupt all the time is seared into my brain. Ever since, I’ve made an active effort to stop myself. Especially without meds, it’s hard.
As someone with ADHD, I feel like this bucks the current trend which is instead to interrupt but then say “I have ADHD” as if that absolves you of the personal responsibility of being a decent communication partner.
This
I usually store thoughts relevant to the conversation until they are no longer relevant because everyone in the conversation is interrupting each other and not leaving breathing room for anyone else
I’m diagnosed and I hate interrupting people
took me decades to reach this level this is advanced behaviour
Yes I do this all the time. Most notably after I realize I just accidentally, or very nearly, interrupted someone.
For me, once the interruption happens then it switches to “you stupid bitch, you did it, you did it, you stupid bitch, don’t do it again, don’t do it again, this is why you have no friends you stupid bitch…”
Then you realize that you’ve been only paying attention to yourself repeating this in your head and have been mindlessly nodding and saying “yeah” for the last 3 minutes to the other person and have no idea what they are talking about now.
I’m reasonably sure I’m neurotypical.
Still do this.
