  • Not sure where you got “hundreds” from. It was 40 that were sent to him by someone else. Plus a bunch of other stuff which wasn’t of minors (but obviously age isn’t the only criteria for legally or morality, so I’m unsure if the rest was “legit”).

He got into trouble because they were offered and whilst he initially declined them, he later changed his mind and accepted them (by saying “go on” after being offered again later on), knowing full well what they were.

And that’s where he crossed the line.

He had a great job and reputation over decades of work on TV. Then he goes and does that and destroys everything. Not his smartest move, for sure.

  • When it came to the Ukraine situation, he has, in general, not missed a beat.

The UK has given an impressive amount of gear to the Ukrainians given the size of the UK military, whilst everyone else was dithering and wondering what to give and how much to ensure they still had some stuff at home, the UK attitude was “give them all the things and we’ll worry about it later”.

Obviously countries like Poland had to be more cautious.

A lot of training and intelligence has been given to Ukraine as well. The UK continues to host Ukrainian troops for training.

The UK even made binding “boots on the ground” support agreements to Norway and Sweden in case Russia tried anything during their NATO membership process.

UK gave a bunch of Challenger 2 tanks with “do what you like with them” terms, not just “pwease don’t shooty shoot on Wussian tewwitory” nonsense. This was a token gesture as actually Ukraine really wanted the German stuff but it opened the door a bit to basically embarrass Germany into getting it’s act together.

As much as I don’t like the man, Johnson did well when it came to supporting Ukraine, and credit should be given where it is due.

  • Confusing thing #1 was actually a smart move.

Reform party, who has been a bunch of useful idiots and have been diluting the Tory vote significantly have not got enough members in place to stand in every location as this will be their first general election and they are a new party.

The SNP has only just picked a new leader after the previous one stepped down and they have fallen out of favour in recent times.

Labour (main competition) was not expecting anything until November time as the running theory is that the Tories would wait for a bit to see if something would “come up” and rescue their awful polling (as per your suggestion). So even they were caught off guard and now have to scramble to organise everything. This shit isn’t easy, even for established parties.

Hell, even the Tories were caught off guard by their leader doing this.

Sunak has played an interesting card here. I doubt it will make any difference but at least he is being somewhat clever with the surprise timing of this.
