  • I’m not OP, but many people associate feminism with strengthening women specifically. If you look up the definition it actually does focus gender equality, no matter what gender you have. So from my perspective the term isn’t really intuitive.

Another thing I don’t like about the definition (at least the one on Wikipedia) is…

Feminism holds the position that modern societies are patriarchal—they prioritize the male point of view—and that women are treated unjustly in these societies.

While I sure get what they mean, I personally don’t like to classify one’s point of view as ‘male’. I agree that there are far more toxic men that seek more and more power. But i don’t dislike such people because they are men. I’d dislike their behavior just as much if they were women, non-binaries or any other gender. Classifying a character trait male IMHO is similar to calling a skirt or dress ‘women clothes’.

So yes, to me personally, anti-sexism / anti-discrimination or even better pro-equality are more appealing.

Lemmy loves artists who have their income threatened by AI because AI can make what they make at a substantially lower cost with an acceptable quality in a fraction of the time.

AI depends on being trained on the artistic works of others, essentially intellectual and artistic property theft, so that you can make an image of a fat anime JD Vance. Calling it plagiarism is a bit far, but it edges so hard that it leaks onto the balls and could cum with a soft breeze.

While I mostly agree with all your arguments, I think the ‘intellectual property’ part - from my perspective - is a bit ambivalent on Lemmy. When someone uses an AI that is trained on pirated art to create a meme, that’s seen as a sin. Meanwhile, using regular artists’ or photographers’ work in memes without paying the author is really common. More or less every news article comes with a link to Archive.is to bypass paywalls and there are also special communities subject to (digital) piracy which are far more polular than AI content.

  • I know about some disadvantages of dams but I’m not sure if - in many regions - we have much of an alternative to buffer water over different seasons. We used to have huge glaciers in the mountains which retained snow in winter and released water in summer. But as more and more glaciers disappear, we have to come up with artificial measures to store water for agriculture, drinking water etc.

If we then can harvest electricity on top, that’s a nice byproduct from my perspective.

I think he has a point. In the last few years I only remember the release of Hogwarts Legacy which was related to Harry Potter. Never heard of a show, pop up events etc.

But the calls for boycott I see at least once a week here on Lemmy.

Maybe it would be better to just add that as comments to actual HP promo rather than giving it additional attention and relevance.

  • I believe there’s a pretty low chance of any meltdowns or nuclear events, due to so many fail-safes.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. But wouldn’t it still be a serious safety hazard for the local population through contaminated air/water?

And if no radioactive material is set free, isn’t it still available to keep producing nuclear weapons? According to a German article Iran is estimated to already have sufficient Uranium for 15 nuclear bombs.

In my simple mind that means you either have to directly destroy that material (and potentially expose millions of people to it) or if you just destroy the production facilities, you can only slow down the enrichment of further material without impacting the current capabilities. Do I oversee something?
