Thanks. It’s an odd accusation after simply asking “How?” (I was genuinely curious) but I appreciate you clarifying their response. Upvoted to counter the downvote 🙂
I’ve never really followed X (nor Twitter), Bluesky, Instagram, TikTok, etc. so I basically live under a rock. Sometimes I ask dumb questions to try to understand people a little better. Apologies if my questions inadvertently offend anyone. I mean no harm.

It’s possible that I’m just a dumbass, but…

There will always be conspiracy theories for things like this. It’s probably just the usual noise

I would guess they’d explain it the same way they explain other rocket launches.

Should NASA be shut down until Earth is cured of all diseases?

Some people seem to think about political issues every day. It seems unhealthy and unhappy.

I think this is one of the reasons why people from English-speaking countries are less motivated to learn other languages; English is almost everywhere, to varying degrees.
It’s sort of a gift and a curse. I enjoy learning languages, but there’s no practical need for me to, so I’m bad at it 🙈

Yep. I imagine Spanish is much more useful in Texas than in Alaska

There are language exchange sites and apps for that. Lots of people learn languages just as a fun hobby, and there are many resources out there for it

Fun fact: You can learn without school. There’s sooo much information outside of school walls, and it’s easier to access now than ever in the history of humanity.

It’s useful for sending money internationally in situations that would be otherwise difficult

Sometimes it’s expensive or difficult to send money between two countries, depending on which countries they are. But if you know how to send crypto, it’s the same process and price no matter where it’s going.
Did I miss some news (which is entirely possible) about a draft, or is this just Lemmy being dramatic again?
In some languages, all nouns are gendered, and it’s impossible to refer to a noun without a gender. There is no “it”, only (s)he.
If you ever learn a language like that, you will make mistakes. If someone hears your mistake, hopefully they’ll be more forgiving about it than you are.

I’ve been pretty happy with Peergos

People downvote things that they don’t understand? Is this common behavior on Lemmy?
(Just asking because I often don’t understand downvotes on Lemmy)

Whoa, I didn’t know Visual Basic is still around. I remember using VB6, many years ago

American tech companies created algorithms that happen to boost videos and news articles of fringe/extreme occurrences that take place here. The mainstream news networks also prioritize content like that, for the same reason: It’s very profitable. Boring news/content just doesn’t make much money.
People who have never visited the US seem to have a very distorted understanding of what everyday life is like here. We display a pretty embarrassing caricature of our country for the world to see.
And to make things even more embarrassing, we made our government ridiculous, and made our politics become pop culture (yet also very tribal) over the last ~15 years.
I used a mini PC (from Minisforum) for my home server for a while. It worked great— until it didn’t. It just suddenly shut off forever without any warning signs or anything. No signs of life. I confirmed that the power supply and memory were fine. The only option is to find a replacement motherboard (and CPU/GPU since it’s an APU soldered onto the motherboard).
I ended up just building a PC to replace it. I don’t recommend a mini PC for this purpose.
