Protests only work because there’s an implication that if things don’t change, the citizens will take matters into their own hands. When it becomes obvious that protests will cause nothing more than minor disruption, then they lose a great deal of their effectiveness.

Yea, these guys are evil and malicious, but also quite incompetent. It comes with the territory; loyalty is rewarded more than competence. Germany famously had a similar problem of being led by incompetent fuckwits, and that doesn’t mean they were any less evil or that anyone is giving them a pass for anything
