On one hand, we essentially have someone who accidentally missed an item during self checkout, and another person who ransacked the store, took everything they could, showed off what they stole, and had a standoff with police. I believe in this process, the ballots are human counted, but the country has less than the population of California, so it probably doesn’t take too long. Scaling it up for the backwards US system would be harder, but not impossible to improve.

This would be so much overhead work and also defeat the purpose of Ranked Choice Voting. This basically moves the First Past the Post earlier in the process, which will exclude candidates

If Joe doesn’t pardon Hunter, there’s no way Trump will. He’s spent 6+ years saying the Biden family is crooked, he wouldn’t want to show he’s weak and reverse his original unsubstantiated stance. I assume Joe won’t pardon Hunter, to set some sort of norm for Trump, which Trump will completely ignore and pardon his family at the first smell of corruption.

Sadly search interest for Project 2025 only peaked after the election. I assume of the people that heard about it, they either assumed Trump wouldn’t be elected, and they therefore don’t need to care about it, or think they’ll be unaffected if Trump is elected. Now they’re seeing the ideas outlined in there and probably freaking out.

Not really sure what more could be done to inform people of the dangers of Project 2025. Maybe repeating it ad nauseam caused people to tune it out or something?

There’s always going to be a large majority of the population who is not informed about anything and just vote on vibes. Biden & Harris took a lot of the post-Covid economic heat that many countries are dealing with now, and isn’t unique to the US or specific policies. That’s causing bad vibes and rejection of incumbent leadership everywhere.

Yeah, out of everything, his Supreme Court nominations are the longest lasting. They will outlive him and be a lasting influence for most of our lives. Every unconstitutional thing Republicans want to do will be handed to them by the SC. So long for checks and balances.

You don’t need to vote third party to get Ranked Choice Voting. There are ballot measures this election to introduce ranked choice voting, independent on who you vote for President. You can vote for Harris and RCV if you’re in one of these states:

Oregon

Oregon voters will vote on Measure 117 in November 2024 on whether they will use ranked choice voting general elections for statewide and federal offices (starting in 2028).

The Oregon Legislature passed the reform in 2023, but any change to the state constitution requires referral to the voters before enacting.

Colorado

Proposition 131 will appear on Colorado’s November 2024 ballot. If passed, it would establish an “all-candidate primary” where the top four vote getters move on to a ranked-choice general election.

Idaho

Proposition 1 has been certified to appear on Idaho’s November 2024 ballot. If passed, it would establish an “all-candidate primary” where the top four vote getters move on to a ranked-choice general election.

Nevada

Nevada voters will vote in November 2024 on whether they will use open primaries and ranked choice voting general elections (starting in 2026).

Voters already approved it in 2022, but it needs to pass in two consecutive ballot measures in order to amend the state constitution.

Washington D.C.

Initiative 83 will open up the District’s primary elections to allow voters not registered with a political party to participate (~71,000 people). General elections will use ranked-choice voting where voters can rank up to 5 candidates.

I played the free demo of Factorio for about 10 hours and got hooked. Waited a bit to see if the price would go down, but it didn’t and I didn’t care.
