Actually the preferred term is illegal aliens. I omit the latter because calling a human being an alien is the actual dehumanising part. Spare me the insipid fuckin moralisation.

Indeed. It’s a lot to put on Canada and Mexico, but such is the situation. You’re the world’s first line of defense against the McReich.
I’ll do my part by buying your exports the most I can, especially if the other option is to buy from America. If there’s anything else you think we can do to help even on an individual level, please share.
I agree, but something has to give. It behooves the world to treat current version of Repubs as the 2nd 3rd Reich. Appeasement concessions is what they’re looking for. As such, it’s on Canada & Mexico to establish robust trade partnerships that don’t include the putrid carcass of Uncle Sam that’s being marionetted by that orange psychopath.
You don’t avoid tariffs per se. When the good enters the country, the tariff is paid to customs. It’s just an import tax. Now to recoup the loss from that tariff, it will be sold to you at a markup. You can still pay Canadian and Mexican goods, but the best thing you can do is optimize shit where you live.
My recommendation to you would be to buy less if you can help it. Don’t use Amazon if you can help it. Legumes, grains, dairy, produce, water, cheap protein, all bought locally. If you can purchase from illegals even better. I got this guy that sells me honey on my way back from work. It’s fire. Look at it as a little challenge you impose on yourself. You don’t need to do it perfectly. If enough people do it imperfectly, the corporate concerns that got you all into this mess will feel the hurt.
The worst case scenario here was complete capitulation. Chamberlain’s appeasement policies didn’t work and neither would bending the knee to Herr Drumpf.
Now double down. Tariffs on Teslas and ban X (the everything app (f.k.a. Twitter)).
He’s only losing if you consider him to be playing for Team America.
He sure could. Did you know that USPS is technically a government-granted monopoly by way of the Private Express Statutes?
Drumpf could grant X (The everything App (Formerly Known As Twitter)) the same privileges. Maybe not directly, but ultimately it’d have the same result, if they created a service that routed payments through it, and forced citizens to use said service and then grant said service a monopoly.
OK if you say so. How would one ascertain whether these comments had an effect?
As far as I know, when state of affairs becomes uncertain, stocks go down. That’s the extent of my knowledge as pertaining to stocks. I figure that announcements of tariffs bring uncertainty in the long-term.
I never said I was. Trump promised tariffs on EU countries and stocks went down. I’ll grant you they didn’t go down by a lot, but I don’t think the article was being disingenuous.
Right, absolutely. I’m not saying that Herr Drumpf just kickstarted a recession and neither do I think that’s the claim that the article is trying to make. The market, however, had a very clear reaction to just the MENTION of tariffs. What happens when the details to these tariffs are released? What happens when they are actually implemented?
OK but they did fall rapidly, and one can only surmise it’s because of the announcement of more tariffs.
You’re giving Elmo too much credit as this Machiavellian character. Ordinary capitalist. Appeasing your investors is the most common commercial reason. It’s just that advertisers can’t really provide twitter with business anymore on account of his bigoted optics, but dangerous governments can.
He’s so transparent with his intentions, it’s embarrassing. The only explanation of removing your own tool to combat misinformation is because it does not align with your own interests. There’s no way to spin that fact in a positive light and yet there will still be people using twitter. It’s actually getting really fucking hard to not be a misanthrope.
Writing is firmly on the wall, gang. All I see is patch notes for the wars for arable land meta.
Could it be? Has the collective spine of Dems finally grown in?
