Yeah about that. I’m trans and bi. So that is indeed my situation and I’m tired of every president, left or right, either merely tolerating my existence or wanting me dead. I’m willing to vote for the least of the evils when it counts, but I will not stop protesting that the people who are supposed to be progressive are okay falling right back in line behind the same kind of people that drove us to this point to begin with. I"m just disappointed that this is the limit to the progress achievable from the best candidates the left can offer. I don’t like having to compromise on anything considering how uncompromisingly awful this administration has been about everything. Making sure your hands are thoroughly washed isn’t about some goofball idea of purity, it’s a practical precaution.

This makes no sense. If I’m upset about how the world sucks, it’s because I am looking at it accurately. I’m accurately evaluating it as a thing that sucks and should be changed. This isn’t change, this is just the same shit creeping back in under the flag of change, and I’m not buying it. Have a nice day.

Right! Like, if that’s not who he is, then who are they preaching to when they characterize him that way? Who are they appealing to? What I want to bring people across the aisle is improved empathy and understanding, not “our guy is your style” kind of compromises. The problem seems to exist in the media pipeline.

I would argue that the distress was a crucial component of the awakening of empathy that some participants experienced in the wake of the experiment, and that if you want a more empathetic society you’re going to wind up considering some “necessary evils”.

It’ll be a future that doesn’t represent me or people like me, but I’d still be paying taxes. Hope they enjoy meeting the new boss who’s the same as the old boss.
