What a dumb comment. You have never had democracy in your life. You are NOT a Mega Donor. You don’t have the money to pay for any TV ad or campaign of the politician you want to see win. All your life, for the majority of all the countries in the world, people have been forced to elect either politician A who appeals to empathetic people, or politician B who appeals to sympathetic people, both with a touch of apathy for the other. 100%. I really wish TikTok, X, Instagram, Facebook and Reddit got banned. But you can imagine the revolt and anger that’d cause. They’d call us fascists and authoritarians.

Downloaded Reddit after 2 years without it. The default homepage, after it reads your geolocation, is filled with pro-MAGA posts, or posts that encourage MAGA behavior in Spanish-speaking communities. It literally feels like exploring Elon Musk’s X/Twitter.

It’s so disgusting. I am Mexican, and a lot of the young men I see there (and TikTok, Instagram and X) literally say the most misogynistic shit ever, especially toward our president, Claudia, without really arguing or sharing a reasonable or convincing reason as to why. Also a lot of xenophobia, discrimination, just absolute childish madness. It’s super reactionary and immature. A lot of them are very pro-USA, they love the USA more than themselves. One of them threatened me with violence today because I told him that the Mexican cartels get most of their guns from the Iron River. He’d respond with shit like “Fucking chairo, kill yourself, you are always blaming others for your problems, you leftie commie.”

“How do you want Mexicans to defend themselves from narcos that have advanced warfare technology? How exactly is that their fault?” “Shut the fuck up and die. Where do you live? I am aware they are older. The USA is only 250 years old. You are right, though, I will stop measuring them like that. It was more about how that hotspot for human development changes places throughout history, and right now it’s sadly in America; they created the nuclear bomb, the Internet, smartphones, the biggest social medias… That nuclear bomb is probably the worst contender, it made the rest of the world look at the USA and its allies as some kind of “big brother.”

I think countries that had access to those technologies earlier, and also meddled and exploited poorer countries, had an advantage in having the free time and money to grow and care more about societal issues, as explained by Maslow’s “Hierarchy of Needs” I guess. Societies struggling with poverty and wars are having it much harder to continue their evolution or growth, because their priorities are to fulfill their Physiological Needs first, let alone the education they need to be able to change their government. By “young” I subconsciously meant that gap. I didn’t have a better word to describe it. It’s a gap that was exacerbated by greed and corruption.

I’m also not excusing any government. I am very disappointed and angry at all of them. I can still praise what is right and works, but yeah, recently, it’s mostly negative. I felt annoyed at the people here who are genuinely trying to say “Muslims are women abusers” and nothing else, when that’s not the case. Out of all the replies I got here, like 3 of them are from people like that, who instead of seeing what you see, they just want to insult Muslims for the sake of it.
