  • The only way I can think of to break out of that is to not play the game at all - e.g. instead of Windows vs. Mac, make FOSS Linux, and instead of Facebook vs. Reddit, make Lemmy, Mbin, and PieFed. On the other hand, people that already own a house have greater abilities to donate their time to such coding efforts, whereas younger people today… not as much.

  • Worse: they actively do not care. “I don’t know how to [insert business type here], but I know how to manage.” Like the former CEO of McDonald’s taking over (one of?) the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. Who needs a PhD, MD, or knowledge of things like biology, medicine, chemistry, physics, etc., when you know how to uh… what was the goal again? Oh yes: “make number go up”.

  • They have no incentive to care about the product they’re offering because they couldn’t care less about it.

I think it’s kinda even worse: they’ll take a good product and actively make it worse, so it’s not mere indifference to it but active hatred towards the wants of the customers, in contrast to the desires of the Board.

Like why change a perfectly good logo? If it serves its purpose, then leave it alone?! But no, line must go up, and even if changing the logo makes it go down, then oh well…

  • It’s probably a bit of both. You likely will get downvoted heavily though and to explain: the rule in this community is that whenever something is both normal and yet exaggerated in the case of someone with actual (whether diagnosed or not) ADHD, the latter is presumed.

People get just SO TIRED of neurotypicals taking over EVERY conversation and need a safe space to talk and maybe even vent, yeah?

But in this case it really is worth noting, as you did, that even so, smartphone usage can be a contributing factor in making other/existing things worse off, setting aside things like medication status and whatnot.

  • Yes, this is greatly to be feared:-). But at least you will have a job, other than “factory worker” like everyone else seems to be geared into becoming (either that or soilent green / food - I wish I were joking, though possibly the person in charge who put forth that idea was joking at least? I mean… unless we are into it? No? Okay we can wait on that one…).

You will just have to manage all of the products that the company can force upon you, while they do the “real” work - of golfing, ofc! 😉

Also I now realize that my above messages were slightly incorrect - they were for the “Project Manager” role, which is distinct from your role as “Product Owner”, and then “Product Manager” is a whole other thing… I guess, but I have no idea what the latter is supposed to do, really.
