  • Went 2 weeks there:

    • First week was only about diving and was probably the most beautiful thing I will ever see in my life.

    • Second week was about visiting the monuments and while they are astonishing cultural and historical bangers (except the pyramids which are impressive from the outside but just some dull stones in the inside) people living there (even those running restaurants or hotels) are invasive as fuck and not worthile your time…

However we also rentend an airbnb for 2 days and even if the room was clean it looked a bit gloomy but the guy was very nice and friendly we even ate a pizza with him and watched a local TV movie (some sharknado rip from their country XD). It was a way better experience than In a stared hotel with all commodities…

In general, going the tourist way is mostly a bad experience in every country.

  • Except that everything is under your control and not managed by a third party, not much I think.

If this setup works for you and you’re happy with it, just keep it going.

If you have time to spare, want to learn new things, tinkerer arround with network security, certificates, DNS, reverse proxy and, and, and… You can give it a try in a virtual machine and docker containers. But keep in mind that’s not an easy way and involves a lot of personal time before you get a GOOD working self-hosted / exposed services.

I wouldn’t recommend to open any port on your router except for a secured tunnel like wireguard and connect to your services through that tunnel. Opening port 443/80 on your router is bound to some heavy automated scanning and brute force by bots. If you don’t have the necessary knowledge/tool/hardware, this is just going to put you at risk of ddos and remote attacks.

That’s way something like cloudflare is populare, they most of the time take care of that nuisance and also why something like wireguard is popular among the selfhosting community.

  • I’ve subscribed to YT Premium today.

If you’re on Android there’s InnerTune. It’s basically YouTube music but for free ! Just to bad you can’t directly access downloaded files to export them elsewhere. (Yeah that’s practically piracy and illegal)

I like navidrome + Tempo as self-hosted solution. Works well without any issues. However, I read about horror stories people losing all their media or fucking up their media library ?

Also, that’s a huge song library (20.000?)… Not sure this can be easily handled over to a self-hosted solution? But first you need to organize your songs

  • Yeah and it depends. The fact that there is no easy way to search the fedi for similar posts right now is a bit cumbersome for sure.

I see a lot of new users post something that has already been answered a 10000x times (What’s the best Linux distro? It depends !) And luckily there’s always someone to give a mature and comprehensive answer to a new comer without scaring him or down voting him to oblivion. This shows that there are a lot of people who believe in Lemmy and are ready to repeat themselves to keep Lemmy alive and give new comers a warmly welcome ! However I have only seen that kind of interaction in the Linux/self-hosted communities… Most memes/ask Lemmy/political views/… Communities seems rather hostile on their own opinions and quickly become a cesspool of anger and hate :/.

Also a lot of people think because some communities have a lower user base they won’t get any answer or interaction I was quite surprised to get a comprehensive answer and help in the [email protected] community which has only 50 users/month !

I heard that after this scene he just disappeared and was never found?

If I’m right it was the population who fraught back their oppressive regime but I can’t remember exactly when or where (if someone could give me some Info’s here?)

It was a very very hard time for this country and this image was and IS a symbol for freedom.

If any historian could chime in :)

  • I heard everything and it’s contrary. But that’s more of a how many times/week you do it thing IMO.

I’m not a doctor or any specialist but rather on the safe side of things. It’s the dose that makes the difference. If you drink 5 liters of water in less than 1 min, it will probably kill you… But that doesn’t stop me drinking water every day.

And yes I can imagine all Nordic people doing it like 5 time a week? Is probably way to much… It also depends on other factors (genetics?).

Just my 2cent, don’t take it for granted.
