I didn’t say let them off the hook, I spoke only of impeachment and only of Trump. There are plenty of legal avenues to pursue outside of impeachment. Like maybe sentencing a felon after they’re convicted.

Yes but not enough to convict.

Politics is an insane game to play. Here’s why impeaching is probably a bad idea at this point: It’s gonna take longer than two years and even if it is expedited and successful, if he’s removed, what do we gain? President JD Vance? Trump becomes a martyr, and Vance rides that into his own presidential bid in 2028.
You are morally and legally right that he needs to be impeached and removed, but will that further our goals at this point? Or will it be an unncessary distraction and a constant talking point about his victimhood for the right wing propaganda machine?
We’ve got a lame duck president now, best just to hobble him as best as they can, run out the clock, and focus on things that will make a more significant difference to the average person. Better to try to make some lasting change in the form of legislation.

No, it does. It’s called Project 2025.
His agenda isn’t what he told his voters, it never was.

Let’s be real, even stymieing Trump’s agenda, which is a certainty already, is progress.

…possibly.

Sure, and that’s true. I was more highlighting the problems with the pardon system overall.

That is exactly what I was explaining. Maybe I missed your point and we were saying the same thing.

I could see thinking geographically and saying something like Cuba, but Ohio? That’s a new level of disconnection from reality.

He’s also talked about pardoning himself. The constitution doesn’t specifically forbid that, but it’s never been tried. If he tried, there would be a supreme court challenge, and they’re likey to side with him since that’s what they do most of the time now.
It was never anticipated that the voting public would ever tollerate let alone support this kind of corruption across all three branches of our government.

It isn’t. That’s the whole point of the pardon. It was just never imagined that pardons would be used the way they are today. Oh and SCOTUS’ godawful ruling on executive immunity.

That’s more because they were obviously fishing for something new or different to catch him on. There was no reason to bring him back before congress at this point. It was pure theater.
If he purjures himself, intentionally or not, by saying anything that conflicts with previous statements, they’d try to charge him. There was zero benefit to Fauci to testify in that hearing, only legal peril.

You know Vance said that openly, right?
“I think that his historical legacy is enjoying a bit of a renaissance — but I think deservedly so,” Vance said of Nixon. “As I joked … backstage, if Watergate happened tomorrow, it would be like a 12-hour news story. Like, the idea that it would have taken down a presidency is crazy.”

That explains Trump supporters

They’ve shifted their arguments to being against children recieving gender affirming care. They’re saying that minors can’t decide for themselves, and parents who allow it are harming their children.
Adults can do what they want except use the bathroom or play sports apparently.
I do like your optimism, but I think elevating JD Vance to president at this stage is a bad idea. It would be a circus and a distraction from more important matters. It was one thing when Pence was VP who at least had some moral fiber left and it could have removed the possibility of a second term. It’s another thing with a lame duck president whose VP lies just as easily and openly as he does.
