A competent imperial leadership would have perhaps still had the desire to wage full scale war on Iran, but competence would have led them to do at the very least a cost-benefit analysis and conclude that continuing to leverage soft power would have been more in line with the imperial goal of continued global hegemony. This administration’s actions belie a deep seated desperation that is unnecessary and unbecoming.
