This practice seems very nazi to me…
It does, and this article seems ultimately very foolish. “Make sure the Nazi Party understands that we’re the good kind of Jews.” When the time comes it won’t matter what kind of documentation they have. If I had trans kids I’d be making arrangements to leave shithole places like Florida, pronto, before they put the trains into service. I don’t mean that as hyperbole. I think there is a real chance things will get that bad. Something terrible is happening to our country.
I mean yeah, but it’s not always possible for someone to move, especially in the short term. Maybe it’s too expensive or they can’t sell their house. This could be a good survival strategy in the meantime
That’s true in some sense, but again, there are Jews who survived Nazi Germany only by leaving with nothing but the clothes on their backs. We’re not there yet obviously, but with the direction of things, a bit of hustle is probably warranted, whether or not it’s economically advantageous. And I hate that it just makes these places drift further into fascism when decent moral people flee, but I think people need to really open their eyes to what the stakes are here.
That’s why they’re doing it.
It’s terrifying that there are parents having to do this. Good advice, but terrifying.
She ended the article saying the family moved to Oregon.
That is what needs to be done. Trying to prove to the Christian nationalists that you are “one of the good ones” is never going to work, and historically has never worked dealing with fascists.
Fascists have a long history of culling their own. Most fascist groups have the equivalent of a night of the long knives event. Absolutely nobody is safe, and doubly so if you have anything that’s different about you.
Yea, I cannot begin to imagine the stress…
I’m torn on whether parents should stand their ground and fight or simply move for the sake of their kids.
The goal is to make LGBT move away, so that’s playing into their hands.
One might say Jews moving out of Germany in the 30s was playing into their hands. And it was, but it was also ultimately the best out of a bunch of terrible options, at least in hindsight.
