They’re asking for something that will force US involvement in a war if Russia were to invade.

There is zero evidence that the US would intervene if Russia invaded anyone, in fact we have evidence that the US wouldn’t do shit about it other than sell weapons to make money from it. The US has been doing that exact thing with Ukraine, which Russia invaded. Expecting a different outcome in a nearly identical situation is one of the stupidest ideas.

Will it though? I could easily see Trump just writing off the deaths of any service members as a favor to his best buddy Putin or even ordering them to help Russia with the invasion. Best case scenario he just has the entire base stand down and sit on their asses while Russia does what it wants. He’s already indicated he doesn’t give a single flying fuck about NATO, and it’s not like he’s ever let little things like laws or treaties stop him before.

It wasn’t specifically intended as the typical anti-communist shot many comments here normally are. More just a general “be careful who you invite in, Poland” as I don’t feel cozying up to Trump and the US military is in any country’s best interest.

While communism isn’t for me, at least not in any way I’ve seen it play out, I do believe Marx got a lot right about capitalism. I can think M-R wasn’t the best deal for Poland while also believing the US and much of the world was wrong for not being better allies to the Soviet Union. Some of us are capable of a little nuance every now and then.

“We will do everything we can to increase the presence of American troops and create the best possible conditions for our American partner,” he added. “The American side expects details and commitment…and we are currently working on this.”

At present, Poland hosts around 10,000 US troops (though the precise number varies depending on rotational deployments), and Kosiniak-Kamysz noted that Poland currently spends around $15,000 a year for each one. But “this is not a cost, it is an investment”, he emphasised.

Wonder how that will work out for Poland?

Poland has been and is still the largest beneficiary of EU funds. I assume that some part of the EU money is used to pay the US. If this is indeed the case, it is betrayal at best, because the EU wants clearly to distance itself from the US.

Its a shame we spend money on that, it tracks with Polands servitude in stuff like CIA torture sites. The logic here is simple tho. If you check Polish treaties before WW2, and their lack of effect while 6 million (~17%) Poles were murdered with near compleat destruction of the country followed by 60 years of de facto occupation there are strong incentives here to sign deals with any devil, if it rises the chances of that not being repeated. Most people didn’t want to believe WW2 would start, no one anticipated how brutal it would be. We see what’s going over the border and get regular threats of nuclear bombs being dropped on us. Having as many other nations involved as directly as possible is one of the better deterrents and chances for support when shit hits the fan.

And how it works for Greenland when Orange throws a tantrum and sends those troops to occupy it.

This is stupid on so many levels, it has to be for domestic Polish political consumption.

Trump has left us broke, disarmed and vulnerable. We have nothing left to give. We expended a huge amount of munitions in Iran and are having problems replacing them. Also we had to lower the standards for recruits to make the enlistment quotas. You really don’t want us or these new recruits in your country.

    You’re On Your On dudes.
