It’s it the same heat shield as on Apollo. I thought the issue was that they’d forgotten how to make it so it didn’t work as well on Artemis I (though even that one came back intact).
They made some material changes (removing asbestos) and did it tiled instead of one piece.
They found that (on the installed version) doing the skip menuvre, it actually wasn’t hot enough and the material offgased without burning, causing bits to break off.
They made a new version, but didn’t update this mission with it.
