You have a right to curse on the internet.

They have the right to censor their own post.

I don’t get why so many people get actually angry about this.

I think they aren’t happy with people self-censoring their posts to please an algorithm. It’s not about their right to self-censor but users feel they have to do it to avoid penalties when they should not have to. Those mild forms of self-censorship are only the beginning. On Youtube you can already see people re-inventing newspeak by replacing ordinary words like “killed” with “unalived” to avoid algorithmic penalties. That’s fucked up.

Yeah, it’s pretty terrible. There’s a political podcast I was starting to listen to, and the guy on it was talking about how the Venezuelans Trump sent to CECOT were sexually assaulted: he said "They were graped!"

I was like "Did this motherfucker actually say graped?" Yes, yes he did. Obviously, I couldn’t keep listening after that. What the fuck is wrong with people?

I’d agree if we were on an algorithm site. Be mad at the site for censoring people’s free speech.

But we’re on the Fediverse. It’s poster’s choice.

If you don’t want to see something, just block it and make your own.
