    Buy nothing communities work best in localized areas I think, for practical reasons. Not sure if a general community would work with users all around the world.

      people can just talk about stuff. if i accepted your argument, there would be no need for political communities, since these are also not going to change anything, but we are still happy to generate 1000 comment flamewar 😆

        The purpose of a buy nothing group is to give away free stuff in the easiest and fastest way possible. That only works if it’s a local community where people can meet up or travel a short distance to the person giving away stuff. That’s why buy nothing groups on facebook for example are grouped by zip code or general areas within a given city.

        I’ve never seen a buy nothing group where people discuss things. People post only if they’re giving away stuff or if they are in need of something. Discussions can be done on a thrifting community or something similar, not a buy nothing group.
