Perception changed as info flowed more freely. They’ve been evil quite a long time (at the least the 1970s), our very ridiculous intellectual property laws (mostly copyright but also other facets) are the direct result of Disney lobbying (and directly bribing) US govt lawmakers at multiple levels of govt.
It was only post internet that their leverage on media channels weakened enough for it to start being discussed

I feel like Disney is generally known to fit the “big evil corporation” stereotype, but surely this wasn’t always the case.
