My sister verbally attacked my spouse out of nowhere. Later during our drive home she said, “I’m so sorry you had to grow up in that environment.” I nearly cried.
I’m glad that you have a spouse who makes you feel seen, and gives you the compassion you deserve.
My wife didn’t completely believe how my family treated me growing up. She just couldn’t comprehend the level of assholeness.

I moved from the US to Germany, where I met my husband. After we’d been married for a year, I brought him to the US to meet everyone in person.
