there’s always a reason not to switch.

and unfortunately trash audio in Linux is probably the most reasonable.

You should probably still rip the adobe band aid off now even if Apple is your next best choice though. Davinci Resolve is free and worth paying for if you need it professionally.

Yeah I tried, it’s not possible. Davinci Resolve is not a good replacement for AfterFX. There is no way to do easy scripting in runtime. Everything is offline and it’s a function, so audio reactors are impossible or extremely awkward. The effects are good but that’s not what I use afterfx for.

Yeah audio is an issue as well. Moreover, I have gone through my programs list multiple times and about 20% of the vital ones are non replaceable on Linux, or only through tiring manual configuration and subsequent debugging.

Now on the other hand I have a friend who only does minimal work on his notebook. I told him to try out cachyos and he loves it, especially because the few programs he needs (mainly affinity photo) has a workaround. Now it still involved a janky install script which was our 3rd attempt, but now it kinda works. I just wish I was more convinced that it is stable now as well.

Recording has been my only hangup, but I’ve been too lazy to do what I need to do, lol, I just diverted to playing my acoustic instruments. But Blender and my slicing software just worked.
