I’d argue it has more to do with the DNC twice running a geriatric genocidal monster completely controlled by an evil foreign state with no interest in actually governing domestically sans a real primary process. Once your argument is “I’m the lesser evil!” while committing genocide as everyone’s standard of living declines, you can’t blame people for giving ANY alternative a try.
