When I told my coworker about Islay, she got very excited to use that fact to help support her arguments with her right wing family or whoever she argues with about this sorta thing. Thankfully all my friends and family are left wing, most are far left, so I don’t ever have those sorts of arguments in my life, but I was more than happy to help her situation.
The cod was believed to be the king of the fish. I hope to live up to the name 🐟

Oh definitely, I will. She’s worth the much higher price.
Agreed. I love her coat, she’s such a model.
I’m not too sure! That’s a good question though. I’m curious now, I’ll have to ask the vet the next time I see her.
More often than not, cats with both parts tend to develop cancer as a result of it, apparently. That’s according to the vet anyway. But yeah I think they tend to be sterile in most cases.
Good to know, thanks. That’s just what the vet called her, I wasn’t aware there were bad connotations with the term.
Both parts. Islay has both testicles and a uterus. We call her a she (since our other cat is a boy so it’s just easier if one is he and one is she), but technically she’s a they. Unfortunately it’ll be very expensive to get her fixed because of it.
I have a nearly fully blocked nose, always have. As such I can’t really breathe through my nose at all (also my sense of smell is nearly nonexistent). I still eat with my mouth closed. It does take me a while longer though, since I basically need to stop eating in order to breathe. But I’d rather do that than the alternative, because I agree with you, chewing with your mouth open is disgusting and disrespectful.
A bit all over the place lately. I found out I’m having a kid, which is very exciting, and pretty much the thing giving me motivation at work right now. I work in a kitchen and generally like what I do, but upper management is awful and it’s only going to get worse. We got a new big wig recently, so now a bunch of changes are being made to make us more “efficient”.
I’m considering a career change, but I’m planning to take full parental leave (8 weeks for fathers where I am) when the baby comes in the fall, and plan on also taking my vacation during that time (either right before or right after), so I want to wait until that’s all done first. I’ll probably look for a new job in the new year. Some days it’s hard to wait out that long though, today was rough. If every day is like today I don’t know how I’ll make it through the rest of the year. I expect a mass quitting soon if that’s the case.

cats@lemmy.world•What is your cat's name, and what stupid nicknames do you call them?
4·1 year agoI’ve got two. A void and (I think) a blue point.

The void is Apollo, but his nickname is “what is that in your mouth”
The blue point is Islay, but her nickname is “how the fuck did you get the toilet paper again”
My baby being born. (S)he is due in September. Can’t wait

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is a community you like and would recommend to others and why?
1·2 years ago+1 for patient gamers too. It’s a great community with great discussion. I don’t think I’ve had a single bad interaction on there

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which fast food restaurant (in your opinion) has the best burger?
1·2 years agoOh really? Huh. I’m also in Canada and haven’t heard of any of them other than Dairy Queen. Weird. Alright I take back my comment then, other than still believing that A&W is great here

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Which fast food restaurant (in your opinion) has the best burger?
2·2 years agoMost of those other places aren’t available in Canada. Also, Canadian A&W is independent from American A&W so maybe their food is a bit different too. Canadian A&W is great
I know a dog named Willow. Nothing more fun than to go to their house and excitedly say “Hello Willow!” over and over again. It’s so much fun to say
I’m going as Joe/Manco/Blondie from the Dollars trilogy. My girlfriend was originally going to go as cowboy (cowgirl?) Barbie but that might be changing now

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People Who Don't Wear Deodorant or Seemingly Bathe Regularly, Why?
5·3 years agoDuring the summer it can get up to 30, during the winter down to -20 ish. -5 up to 20 is the normal range though. Not sure how but she rarely sweats. She’s always freezing cold. Her sweat also doesn’t really smell much, not sure if that’s a pH balance or what, idk much about that.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•People Who Don't Wear Deodorant or Seemingly Bathe Regularly, Why?
374·3 years agoMy girlfriend finds showering and bathing extremely painful due to several very severe skin conditions. She’s also allergic to almost every deodorant that doesn’t cost a ridiculous amount. She doesn’t sweat a whole lot so it’s usually not an issue, and can get away with only one shower a week usually. Her conditions are pretty rare so I’m not saying everyone who doesn’t shower regularly has what she has, but there might be factors at play for some that give them legitimate reason not to shower. Or it could just be laziness

I love her large ears. Reminds me of a fox.
Islay was named after the scotch, so you were right about the island in Scotland! When she was a little younger, the grey in her coat was far lighter in colour and looked like a smoky colour, so I figured since Islay is usually a smoky scotch (and my personal preference for any hard liquor outside of Canada), the name seemed fitting. We would’ve called her Peaty if she went by he instead, for the same reason.
I hadn’t put two and two together with my username here, that’s hilarious.
