No problems updating on my machine, the whole process was smooth and painless. I do however think Cosmic could use more time in the oven as in its current form it doesn’t feel and work as well as GNOME did for me.

It’s not unusable mind you but it’s missing polish, some settings either don’t exist (night light) or aren’t as robust as before (I can’t use numpad numbers for keyboard shortcuts for example) and certain apps aren’t as good in my opinion (I regularly switch between COSMIC files and the old file explorer). I’m also used to my old workflow so I’ll need some time to figure out the best setup going forward.

It’s stable but not 100% ready in my experience.

Seems like most people prefer cases based on what I see around me. Personally I don’t like the additional bulk plus I’m careful enough with handheld objects to not drop them. Haven’t destroyed any phone so far.

Eh, I wouldn’t. The industry might be more resilient at the moment but it’s not invulnerable. Even if they won’t succeed (or at least not right away) there’s a high chance they’ll make things worse for everyone - that and they’d probably try to copy Neuro-sama without understanding what’s up or putting actual work. Although… that last part could lead to some fun with Neuro dunking on such clones. Probably still not worth it though.

My guess would be it’s a mix of the, still pretty common, blindness towards Asian market (outside some specific industries) and a lot of focus on all the craziness happening around the world (doubly so since the regime change in the US).

I’m not exactly the target demographic of The Economist though so I might be completely wrong. Either way, the longer it takes for tech bros to try and jump into vtubbing on the corpo level the better.

Same here. I actively avoid watching Trump or his administration talk so seeing both him and Vance during this meeting was… exhausting to say the least. I can only imagine what was going through Zelensky’s head throughout the whole thing. His face sure said a lot.

I watched some of the transmission and all I can say is my respect to Zelensky grew tenfold with that exchange alone.

Having to interact with these two clowns and still keeping his cool (as much as he was able to) requires A LOT of patience and will. It was horrifyingly stupid in a train wreck kind of way.

That’s not really a conspiracy theory. It’s a pretty open, two pronged attack from both Russia and United States.
The former does its regular disinformation spam constantly. As for the US recently we had:

• JD Vance attacking European democracies for “being against free speech” (during a freaking security conference).
• … and during CPAC.
• Twitter and Meta approving propaganda ads.
• Twitter (and TikTok) serving right-wing biased feeds to their German users.
  And much much more.

If we’re talking about Musk specifically he:

• Took part in AFD’s campaign meeting.
• Kept boosting AFD on Twitter before elections.
• Had multiple comments attacking democratic parties and saying that AFD should be the ones ruling Germany etc.

Neither side is even pretending they’re aren’t trying to upend democracies and replace them with far-right autocracies.

See, that’s kind of what I’m talking about. Based on the results I’ve seen, all the votes for independent candidates combined amounted to less than 2% of all counted votes. Do you really think those 2% had a bigger impact on the end result than the 90 or so million of people who didn’t vote at all?

I’m not saying they had no impact, it just feels weird to focus so much on those who cared enough to take part in the democratic process while treating the rest as a secondary issue.

To clarify, this is just my observation based on internet comments and some news snippets I’ve seen. I understand things might look different IRL and from a perspective of someone in the middle of this madness.

Yeah, I’m not from or in the US which is why my question was mostly about what I’ve seen online and some media snippets. I have no idea about IRL sentiment, though I assume it varies like with everything.

Understandable, it just seems like a wider sentiment based on my limited exposure to this topic.

Perhaps I’m just unlucky enough to stumble mostly on comments focusing on them. I was however lucky enough I didn’t have to read explanations like the one you’ve quoted here yet.

It’s not just lemmy, it’s something I’ve seen on other sites as well as traditional media (repeated by news anchors, commentators and even politicians). It’s just weird to me that the focus is on such a small number of voters instead of those who simply didn’t care enough/were prevented from voting/weren’t successfully convinced by the democrats.

That’s another thing I didn’t see brought up nearly enough. Granted, I’m not extremely tuned into American media so maybe it is a hot topic there but yeah, thanks for mentioning it.

To me saying “people like you” implies similarity between “them” and the person you’re saying it to but whatever.

To reiterate, I don’t think these people are blameless (every bit of resistance counts after all) but I feel like for many normal people, politicians and media commentators, they (pro-Palestinian protesters, LGBT folks etc) became a scapegoat that completely stole the focus from all the rest of the potential voters who didn’t feel strongly enough to oppose an openly fascist candidate. It’s just weird to see.

You’re accusing me of something I never did. I’m asking because pretty much all the blame I’ve seen is put on those protest voters and the topic of non-voters rarely, if ever, comes up in these comments.

It’s kinda fascinating how every single comment section about another Trump news is filled with folks dogging on a minority who voted third-party and not the, what was it, third of the country (?) who didn’t vote at all.

Do you all really think that those who trully didn’t vote because of the Palestine would somehow change the final outcome? Were they that numerous?
