  • (And I know I’m sure as shit missing things. )
THEN you have the orange moron and his crap. Which you all voted for a second fucking time.

One thing you’re missing is the Electoral College, which means that morons in Wyoming have votes that count three times anybody else’s. Because 49% of voters (who are themselves only 65% of the population - so 31% of the population overall) voted for him a second time, and that’s assuming that his quote about Elon Musk was just offhand bullshit and not outright admission of voting fraud:

“He knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers. Those vote-counting computers… And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide. So it was pretty good. Pretty good. So thank you to Elon.”

  • Well, now you can’t say all the older not chronically online fans you know rave about it, because I’m older, not chronically online and I think it sucks.

Edit: I’ve just found out that “not chronically online” means “too incompetent to do shit online” so my apologies for misunderstanding. I thought it just meant, you know, not being online a lot. Like me. I’ve posted to Lemmy about 10 times in the past 5 days. I have literally no other social media accounts on the Internet. I was on Facebook for like a week in 2014 before I noped out. BUT! I can make an account on Lemmy, so my opinions about Star Trek are clearly only informed by being a chronically online mouth-breather.

  • mortgage rates are climbing

This shouldn’t be cited as a bad thing with inflation where it is. Interest rates are the primary lever that the Fed uses to control inflation. When interest is higher, inflation cools down. When you lower them it heats up. Not that it’s that big a help when the price of gas is doubling because of *checks notes* an unending war in the Middle East that nobody asked for.

Constant, nonstop lowering of interest rates ordered by a fucking idiot from 2016-2020 (going to near ZERO) most directly caused the current housing price situation. Guess which idiot I’m talking about. That’s right, the same guy who has been trying to do the same thing for the past two years because when property values go up, so does his bottom line and nothing else in the world fucking matters to the orange dipshit.

  • The country won’t be able to do this because, as strange as it is, 33% of it is literally in a cult that worships the man. Only with the true and full will of the country behind you could you hope to do what needs to be done: full asset seizure and trial for crimes and treason and whatever proper associated punishment follows.

But you can’t do it, because he fully controls 1 out of every 3 people you see on the street in America. While that’s far from a majority, it’s enough to make a proper accounting impracticable. 33% of the country would be going feraljak about the government being weaponized.

But even beyond him, there’s something else that desperately needs doing and that’s an overhaul of the Constitution. The document was fantastic for 1787. It is woefully inadequate to run the modern United States. Its biggest shortcoming, ironically, is the absolute inability of government to properly and deftly respond to the very success that it’s principles have brought to it.

None of it’s going to get done until everybody is so miserable that they no longer have anything tribal on their stupid, small minds. There’s going to have to be real pain, like starvation and suffering going on before real change is going to be able to be effected because people are still fat and happy enough to sit around and guffaw while Trump owns the libs, even as the cost of everything around them doubles.

  • hops just have to be closer.

It doesn’t take much of a leap of imagination to see a torrent-like system utilizing all available devices within earshot to spread the bandwidth around to realize a pretty fast system available nearly everywhere in dense urban areas and slower (but ubiquitous) coverage the more rural you get. Obviously we’re far away from that now, but this definitely seems like the future to me.

  • I believe this stuff is going to be huge. Reticulum, Lora, Meshtastic all bit players now in a drama that has yet to get a finished script. It will start out as a supplement to the Internet, allowing you connectivity even when your Internet falters and as it becomes more ubiquitous, it will be increasingly used/usable and increasingly important. It can’t be shut down, it can’t be controlled. A country would literally have to ban radio signals of any kind in order to shut it down. It’s free. Buy the hardware, use the network, because you are the network. I love this.
