Mr. al-Shara was once imprisoned by U.S. forces in Iraq, and then went on to found the Syrian branch of Al Qaeda. He had a $10 million U.S. bounty on his head until December of last year, shortly after he led a rebel offensive that ousted Syria’s longtime dictator, Bashar al-Assad.

The Syrian leader has been discreetly cooperating with the U.S.-led coalition against ISIS and Al Qaeda since he took control of a slice of rebel-held territory in northwestern Syria in 2016, according to Syrian officials and Western diplomats who spoke on condition of anonymity in keeping with diplomatic protocol.

Tens of Syrians whom I’ve spoken with stright up told me word for word before I even say my opinion to them:

“We know he’s a traitor agent, and people in Syria have began to do WORSE econimically than they were under Assad. He was installed to cut off Hesbolla Lebanon weapons and aid from Iran, and give Israel land and protection. From day 1 he was supplied with drones and weapons and accepted by the West and US Gulf allies to replace Assad who did not do enough to protect Israel nor curb Hesbolla in Lebanon. The paid propagona lies you see on the news are whitewashimg him but the truth is that Syrian people went from one dictator to another dictator who is also an agent to the west.”

I swear to god I did not make a word of that up, and none of it is surprising.

I’m a bit surprised that Syrians are doing worse economically. I would have wagered that with the lifting of US sanctions the average Syrian would be doing slightly better now.

They all told me “We were tricked at first. The news about improving economy was propagonda. The currency went up for 1 week, and government salaries were paid by the Gulf countries for 2 months only. After that people could not find work and the ones who do cannot find enough to eat working all day.”

The Syrians I spoke to none of them was dual national despite living abroad. They all have families who live in Syria and themselves visit Syria every few months to support their families there. I swear I did not make any word up. I myself wish for ordianary Syrians to at least thrive economically and live in peace even if their government was a traitorous dictatorship, but I was surprised by that part as well.

You wanted him to ally with ISIS instead? There were many factions within Syria that aligned with the US for support to fight Assad and ISIS. The Syrian Democratic Forces are straight-up libertarian socialists. They aligned with the US for support too, now they’re part of the Syrian governing coalition

He was ISI originally which was pre ISIS but he’s from exactly the same sectarian corner. He’s a Saudi Wahabi cosplaying as a Syrian.

There was no civil war. There was a US-Israeli proxy war against Syria, Iran and Russia. That doesn’t mean Assad somehow was good, but most of the suffering was caused by US-backed terror groups and crippling US sanctions.

His loyalty is not with the Syrians who fought Assad and ISIS with him. He’s always been an agent for US and Israel. Al Sharaa’s army lately even killed indiscriminately and turned over forign dissidents and fighters who fought alongside with him to free him from Assad regime to their countries Eygpt, UAE, France, Dutch, UK, whatever. It made the news and the slaughter was on video too
