Latest target of Trump’s retribution campaign says ‘only thing I am surprised about is that it took him this long’

The Democratic congressman Eric Swalwell is the latest target of Trump’s retribution campaign against his critics, the congressman confirmed on Thursday.

NBC News reports that Swalwell is facing a federal criminal investigation for alleged mortgage fraud, just as three other Democratic officials have faced in recent months. The outlet says the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency sent a letter to the attorney general claiming Swalwell may have committed mortgage and tax fraud.

Swalwell said in a statement: “As the most vocal critic of Donald Trump over the last decade and as the only person who still has a surviving lawsuit against him, the only thing I am surprised about is that it took him this long to come after me.”

The way he responded to this was really good. He got up there and said “I’m only surprised it took this long for Trump to come after me, bring it on”

Everyone who was against Trump has committed mortgage fraud and is getting busted for it at the same time?

    Literally unbelievable.

Every instance I’ve seen with actual details has been improper use of real property tax exemptions. In many states you get a discounted tax rate by declaring your home as your primary residence. If you own several properties you only get the discount on one, which is supposed be the one you live at the most (ie primary residence).

The “fraud” part comes in play if you claim multiple properties as your primary. It’s harder to do that if the properties are in the same state, but it’s easy if they’re in different states since states don’t talk with one another. It’s so easy that it’s often accidental.

We’re talking a few grand a year in tax savings. It’s ripping off your state by under paying and people in these positions should know better so it’s harder to give them sympathy, but elevating what may be an accident to a supposed major scandal is a silly headline making exercise.

And why is this happening? Retribution, of course: first person I recall being attacked in the manner recently was MTG.

Democrats really need to stop committing me mortgage fraud. They’ll give a 50 year mortgage to an unemployed baby so why bother with fraud? It would sure save them a lot of legal trouble.
