See, the thing is that in my country we don’t really have a tradition for trick or treating since halloween itself is entirely imported from the US by corporations and stores trying to offload more candy and junks for profit. And still, every god damn year I buy candy just in case any of the kids in our neighbourhood decides they want to this year start trick or treating, because I wouldn’t want to be the house where a kid comes to our door, excited to get some sweets and have a bit of fun, and receive only dissappointment and sadness.

However unsurpisingly every year I end up eating all the candy with my spouse. But it’s a sacrifice we’re willing to do, because if the day ever comes and kids here start trick or treating, I want to spread happiness from the start, since in this day and age kids deserve to do silly things and just be happy.

If anyone tries to tell me that I’m only making excuses, I will deny all such ludicrous allegations until the day I die!

I can feel good about eating a bag of Halloween candy because the many non recyclable wrappers slowed me down

Halloween candy is ridiculously expensive the last few years. I refuse to participate.

The word “refuse” suggested these hand emojis that look like bookends to me because tiny emojis are difficult to see on the non-zoom-in-able Lemmy interface I use.
